About NCBV.

Mr. Tom Zengel, MBA, JD, LL.M. (tax), AVA, is the principal of NorCal Business Valuations. He has conducted business valuations since 2004. Tom offers clients a unique and valuable skill set rarely seen in business valuation professionals. Combined with NACVA-certified valuation skills, his legal, tax, consulting, and corporate experience all translate into client-centered service and superior valuation deliverables.

An Accredited Valuation Analyst (AVA) trained and certified through the prestigious National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA), Tom brings to his clients a unique combination of professional, corporate, legal, and financial consulting experience. This unique skill set strengthens the quality and effectiveness of his valuations.

As a previous corporate consumer of high quality consulting services, Tom is keenly aware of his clients’ need for quality work, practicality, responsiveness, and timely delivery. Contributing Professional Experience
  • Director of Corporate Tax.
    Chief tax officer for a Silicon Valley NASDAQ 100 corporation with annual revenues over $1 billion. Reported directly to the CEO and CFO.  Headed internal tax group.  Liaison to and reviewer of outside professional consultants.  Advised Executive Management and Board on company tax position, proposed strategic business transactions and partnering relationships.  Directed division managers on numerous domestic and international business, tax and tariff matters.
  • Tax Manager.
    For a “Big 4” consulting firm, advised private entities and public corporations on various domestic, foreign, and cross-border tax and related M&A.
  • Financial analyst.
    For the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (Washington DC), conducted research and underwriting for multi-million dollar infrastructure project financing and loan guarantees to US companies doing business in risky foreign markets.
  • Attorney.
    In an av-rated private practice in the SF Bay Area.  General business, real estate, contracts, transactions, and civil litigation matters.  Trial and appellate work in the federal and California courts.
